Big Thompson Canyon (and Storm Mountain) residents have a Facebook group (Dam to Dam BT), and to reach neighbors who don't want to use Facebook, we have been using Nextdoor.com to share information about wildlife issues like bear break-ins and preparedness topics. Many residents are not using Twitter due to cell phone signal problems or they just don't like Twitter. The goal is to have an alternate online communication platform in case Facebook goes down when we need it. Some of the difficulties signing up for Nextdoor have been that not all canyon street addresses are recognized by the 'national database' usually meaning the one managed by the US Postal Service. The other is that some second home owners who are signed up for Nextdoor at their primary residence haven't figured out how to set up two accounts. Another issue for some neighborhoods is finding someone to lead the project. |
